Texas Medicare Supplement Insurance – Confusing But Manageable

Texas Medicare supplement insurance comes in a variety of packages, and it can be confusing to say the least.  There are twelve plans, sold in packages A through L.  There are so many options, that it does confuse many people.  The good news about the Medicare supplements, also known as Medigap policies, is that they are universal in terms, and the only real difference is pricing.  Older Texans who are now ready to qualify for these plans should be aware that the timeframe to purchase this type of coverage is 63 days from the previous insurance’s end date.

Moving on, we know that there are twelve plans, and they go from letters A through L, and that they are consistent across companies.  Plan A is the most basic and only includes basic coverage.  Plan B of Texas Medicare supplement insurance also includes Part A deductible, and Plan C includes even more, including Part A, Part B, skilled nursing coinsurance, and foreign travel emergency.  Plan D has basic benefits, Part A, skilled nursing, as well as foreign travel plus at home recovery.  As you can see, there are already numerous options to consider, all of which are important and necessary.

Next among Texas Medicare supplement insurance is Plan E, which includes basic benefits, skilled nursing, Part A deductible, preventative care, and foreign travel emergency.  Plan H is just like Plan E except it does not include preventative care. Plans F, G, I, and J all include various coinsurance options, and all include basic, skilled nursing, Part A deductible and foreign travel emergency.  Plans G, I, and J also include at home recovery, while only plan J includes preventative care. Plans K and L do not include anything at 100%, and at reduced percents offers some coverage for basic benefits, skilled nursing, and Part A deductible.

As you can see, choosing Texas Medicare supplement insurance is daunting and full of many options.  Choosing the plan that works best for you or for your relative or family friend who is having to choose is important, somewhat confusing, but definitely manageable.  Go through and decide which benefits are important, then compare prices. Making sure you or your loved ones have the coverage that is needed to ensure their good health and prevention is worth more than saving a few dollars, not to mention the financial situation of whomever will end up assuming the end result if things are not covered by insurance.  Be careful and make a well informed decision.
